Cam has a flamboyant personality. He is very dramatic and expressive. His personality can be seen very well in all the episodes, as he is not one to hesitate to demonstrate how he feels. He often relates situations he's going through to movies and theatrical performances.

Cam demonstrates the looking-glass self perfectly in the episode where he informs Mitchell that the waitress is flirting with him, and he could get any girl he wanted if he was straight. Cam's self-image is one of confidence because he believes women are attracted to him. His confidence in himself comes from what he thinks others see in him.

Phil demonstrates anticipatory socialization as he tries to gain a high status client for his real-estate business. Phil conforms to the behaviors of the client, which include the client kissing Phil's wife on the lips as a greeting. Phil is okay with this because he wants to be accepted by the client and chosen as the realtor for him. He wants to be apart of the client's peer group in order to gain more business for his company

Jay, who is the oldest charachter in the show, is discriminated because of his age and lifestyle. He is married to a woman significantly younger than himself. This causes people to say things such as " are you her dad?" or "your too old to be married to such a young woman." But they do not take into consideration that Jay and Gloria are very much in love.

Phil is a realtor, he uses the mass media to advertise his company. He does this by putting his face on benches and on billboards. This is an easy way to get a large audience to see the message you are getting across.
Generalized other - Mead's term for widespread cultural norms and values we use as a reference in evaluating ourselves
Phil compares himself to many other adults and parents around him, trying to see what they potray as good parenting. He then compares himself to the way they act and think.
Id - Freud's term for the human being's basic drives
Dillon, Haley's boyfreind, always seem to agree with the Id instead of the superego when he makes decisions. An example would be when he snuck into Haley's room and stayed over night because he locked himself out of his own house. He could have easily called his parents or at least asked Haley's parent if he could stay the night, but instead he went with his basic drive.
Phil attempts to be the "cool" dad by doing things he thinks relates to his children. In this case he is trying to dance to "High School Musical"
